unique_himA friend of mine once said, “Worship must be important to God, it’s the only thing He cannot do for Himself, so when you do for God what God cannot do for himself, He will do for you what you cannot do for yourself”. Or put in other words, when you give God what He is looking for, He will give you what you are looking for.

Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto you. (James 4:8)

If you keep God at a distance He will remain there, but if you draw close to Him, He will draw close to you. Every person has to be satisfied with their nearness to God, because everyone is personally responsible how near or far God can come. The issue with intimacy is not dependent on God but man. God does not choose favorites to get close to, man chooses how close God can get to him or her. All the pagan gods are dead figments of a perverse mind but our God is alive and draws near. A dead god can’t see, but our God sees everything. A dead god can’t feel pain, but our God took our pain. A dead God is dead but our God is alive to receive worship and actually looks for it from us.

He’s never had a worshiper like you. You are a one off production, never to be duplicated in the history if humanity. There is no one remotely like you as far as God is concerned. You are so unique to Him and so special that He planned when to bring you into the earth in relation to the work you will contribute to His Kingdom. You don’t exist to survive but to contribute significantly to His Kingdom. In fact He has designed you for that purpose, so you are infinitely valuable to the emergence of the presently glorious church. He has also designed you with the ability to be transformed into the character of His Son Jesus, so you’re in a constant dynamic process of change fashioned by God Himself.

Imagine God seeking your personal worship, this is truly a staggering reality to ponder but it’s true.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. (John 4:23)

He will not stop seeking until He finds it from you, He can’t help himself because He is so in love with you. He just keeps seeking until He finds you in worship. It’s not because He needs it, quite the contrary, it’s because you need to give it. So there’s a continual knock at the door of your heart from God, and He’s always asking the same question, ‘will you worship me?’ This is the action of an infinitely loving Heavenly Father.

We find two great ‘musts’ in Bible spoken by Jesus Himself. In John 3:7 He said, ‘you must be born again’ and in John 4:23 He said, ’you must worship’. Both have huge consequences, the first assures us of eternal salvation, and the second of temporal access and fellowship with God. Both are important and cannot be separated. To live for Christ is to worship Him.
